Instrumental Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)

IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization)  is a form of soft tissue manipulation utilized either alone or in conjunction with manual therapy. This treatment is performed using a specific tool to feel and smooth out the fascial adhesions with either small or long strokes depending on the goal. Often referred to as “Scraping” when utilized on a specified area the technique looks as though the body part is being scraped. We use a lighter touch when using this therapy. You may get pink or slightly red as the blood is being called to the area promoting healing but rarely should there be any bruising if at all. You should feel immediate results such as greater range of motion and reduced pain.

Benefits of IASTM:

  • Improves range of motion (ROM)
  • Improves strength
  • Improves recovery times
  • Improves athletic performance
  • Decreases pain
  • Decreases adhesion/scar tissue
  • Decreases stagnant blood
