Facilitated stretching is when the therapist assists the client with various stretches that target specific areas. Stretching alone are a great way to stay limber and help your muscles recover post activity but therapist assisted stretching will help to gain a deeper stretch into the areas that are hard alone to achieve. PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) stretching will be incorporated in the areas the therapist deems beneficial. PNF is essentially stretching to a comfortable range, then contracting the area the opposite direction against the therapists hold for a few seconds. The therapist then releases the hold and you will achieve a deeper stretch to the targeted area.
